In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. He created the earth and everything in it because it was His pleasure to do so. He created everything in the heavens. The Bible tells us He created the sun, moon, and stars to be used for signs and for seasons. Unfortunately, we live in a time when signs, wonders, and miracles are not enough. It takes more to amaze people. Everything miraculous is explained away by supposed logic.
God never meant for the miraculous to be common. The things of God can’t always be explained, nor should they be. There should still be an aura of wonder pertaining to God and His ways that invite us to explore further, go deeper, and search for Him more. Looking up at a starry night sky should still fill us with awe. Awe of His Majesty and wonder of His creation. I took a trip my senior year of high school with my student government team to a leadership camp somewhere in Massachusetts. The camp was in the middle of nowhere nestled in the countryside. Our class was subjected to various team building activities, one of which was a night hike – without flashlights. The point of that activity was to trust the person in front of you, leading you through the pitch-black forest. The end of the trail led us to a vast open field. I remember bursting onto that field and being arrested by the most magnificent sight – clear as day – the Big Dipper constellation. I had never thought I would see it in real life. As a city kid, I’d never seen so many stars so clearly.
I’ll never forget the astonishment I felt. And so too should we feel when we encounter anything God has created. The sun, moon, and stars, besides being beautiful were made to indicate God’s word to His people. In Biblical times, they appear in conjunction with great events such as Jesus’ birth where the wise men followed a star to find Him. The prophet Joel talks about the blood moons. Job mentions the constellations Pleiades and Orion. Revelation is rife with heavenly signs. If God created the celestial bodies to broadcast His word, we need to listen.
Preacher Girl, the Lord is speaking to His people. On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. A total solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the sun. The sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk. The path of totality, where the sun will be completely blocked is right across the United States.  Biblically speaking, a sign in the sun indicates a message for the country it happens in. The solar eclipse sign is for America. There’s so much to unpack here. Go listen to Pastor Sharo’s latest sermon here AND the latest Preacher Girl podcast here. But some high points for you to know PG.
The April 8th eclipse will pass over 7 cities named Nineveh. You know Nineveh, the major Assyrian city that Jonah was sent to bring a message of repentance to.
The last time America witnessed a total solar eclipse was in 2017. The path of that eclipse passed over 7 cities named Salem. Salem means peace.
The time between the last eclipse and this years’ eclipse is 7 years. Seven is the number of completion.
If you map the paths of both the 2017 and 2024 eclipses, they cross paths over the United States at a point called Joppa, a town in Illinois. Remember Jonah?
A lunar eclipse will happen 2 weeks prior to April 8th.
During the solar eclipse, the constellation Cetus will also be in the sky. Cetus is also known as the whale. Remember Jonah?
The heavens are declaring a message for God’s people, and we’ve got to be able to discern what He is saying. I pray that in these times, that His Word would be revealed to us and His voice would be louder than ever.Â
